Feel free to forward to other relevent groups:

I used Walls and Illustrator to create this working map
http://www.cavediggers.com/zicmap.pdf

NOTES: I have uploaded a single .zip file for Illustrator users who
are just getting started. It contains a Cave Brush file(.ai), and
three Cave Symbol files(.ai).
http://www.cavediggers.com/Illustrator.zip

HOW TO USE SYMBOL AND BRUSH .AI FILES:
Cave Brush File--For IllustratorCS standard install place the
cavebrushes .ai file here Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator
CS\Presets\Brushes in your Windows computer

Cave Symbols File--For IllustratorCS standard install place the
symbols .ai files here Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator
CS\Presets\Symbols in your Windows computer

Once these .ai files are placed you can open up your cave drawing
project and go on the toolbar in IllustratorCS to Window/Brush
Libraries and choose the CaveBrushes file. This will make this set
of cave specific brushes ready to instantly use in your draw project.

For the symbols go on the toolbar in IllustratorCS to Window/Symbols
Libraries and choose to open the Pits90, CaveSym2, and CH90 files
which will instantly give you drag and drop ease of Pit Symbols 1-
90', Ceiling Height Symbols 1-90', and various Cave symbols.

FONTS:
For users of other drawing programs or for those that wish to use
various symbols in say an article for publication I have created the
following 4 Font files and corresponding Key Charts i.e. 1-90'
Ceiling and Pit symbols, 91-180' Ceiling and Pit symbols. Using
these is super simple! Download the files below and put the .ttf
(True Type Font)files in your Windows/Font folder. The symbols are
then available for typing in any program and/or creating quick
symbols in your drawing program of choice.

GETTING PAGES FROM ILLUSTRATOR TO PDF MAP BOOK PAGES:
I have found that exporting raster images from Illustrator seems to
result in average quality. So how I move my pages from Illustrator
ultimately to PDF Map Book Pages is by highlighting a section of map
in Illustrator and selecting "copy" then pasting into Adobe
Photoshop at 200 dpi. After assembling large chunks of the cave
very quickly I can grid off into neat sheets(7.5x10in) in Photoshop
and create .psd page files which of course can have page #'s and
text added etc. for setting hyperlinks in Acrobat later.
INDEX GRID: These large 7.5 x 10 inch map pages can then be shrunk
to a much smaller size to create the Index Grid at the front of the
Map Book.

Making changes is real simple.....i.e. say a new piece of cave is
found and mapped off of station HI137 simply highlight that section
of the drawing in Illustrator....copy....and paste in to the
corresponding .psd Adobe map page in Photoshop...lineup similiar
parts of the drawings and delete the old layer in the Photoshop .psd
file. This creates the new full map page...save as the page
psd......then reduce and add to the index grid .psd file.

I then use Adobe Photoshops "Print with Preview" option and select
background as gray with a 1 pt. border to create a map page in the
book with a nice gray background on the outer 1/2" with a 1 pt.
black border. Choose Acrobat Distiller as the printer and then in
the print window under "Properties" choose Adobe PDF Settings and
choose "Print" quality. Click ok and save the PDF map page by its
corresponding page # in the book. This can later easily be
assembled into a final Map Book in Adobe Acrobat.
